How to remove wax from your carpets or upholstery

When wax is spilled onto your carpet, this can become problematic. Here’s a how- to to remove wax from your carpet.

  • Wax can get stuck in the carpet fibers and leave a large stain.
  • Scrape off any excess hardened wax.
  • Place ice cubes in a bag and freeze the wax. You do not want to get the wax wet.
  • Scrape the frozen wax with a knife to remove as much wax as you can.
  • If the wax is persistent, cover the stain with paper towel or a towel. It is important to use a white towel or something that is free of dyes.
  • Heat the towel with an iron or use a hair dryer over the towel. It is very important to ensure that your iron is set at a low temperature. If temperature is too hot than you can melt the fibers of your carpet. Do not use the steam setting. The heat will melt the wax and it will be absorbed by the towel.
  • Keep repositioning the towel or paper towel on clean areas so the wax can be absorbed.
  • If large pieces remain they may be more pliable to pull out of the fibers.
  • If wax stain remain, professional carpet cleaning may be needed. Professional carpet cleaners use commercial cleaning products which are stronger and can remove challenging stains.
